Main Body

This portion contains detailed information about each individual organization that is included in this directory. The organizations in the main body are arranged alphabetically by Divisions and by Districts under seven divisions and 22 districts.

Within the main body the information appear in the following order:

1.     General Information

This contains detailed address and location of the organization including postal address, telephone, fax, e-mail address and name of the contact person. The information on registration status, typology of organization, date of establishment and nature of organizations are also provided here.

The information on Program sectors in order of priority is provided under 1.6 while section 1.7 gives information about Program beneficiaries of the organization in priority order. This is important to mention here that during data collection organizations were asked to provide maximum five choices in order of priority for their Program sectors and Program beneficiaries. However, in some cases organizations were serving less than five beneficiaries and Program sectors.

Section 1.8 provides information regarding geographic focus of the organization. It provides details whether the organization is working in rural or urban area and the geographic location of its operation.

2.     Objectives & Projects

This portion deals with typology and objectives of the organization. The information under 2.1 explains the nature and type of organizations that can be service delivery, capacity building, resources sharing lobbying & advocacy, research etc. The respondents during data collection were given 10 different choices and were asked to provide maximum five choices in priority order to define nature and type of their organization.

Section 2.2 of the main body gives information about the objectives of the organization that a particular organization is trying to achieve through its programs and activities.

The information about various major projects undertaken by organizations are provided in section 2.3. This includes details of the project name, resources details and status of the project whether completed or ongoing. Similarly section 2.4 provides similar details for the future projects that an organization has planned to undertake in the next two years time.

Details regarding various periodic publications including newsletters, bulletins and magazines are provided in section 2.5.

3.      Organizational Structure

This portion contains details of various administrative structures and size of organizations. Section 3.1 explains who out of General Body, Board of Directors, Executive Committee and Office Bearers are involved in deciding about policy, technical and operational matters. Section 3.2 gives the number and gender details of General Body, Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Office Bearers, Programme Staff, Support Staff and Volunteer Staff of the organization.

4.     Finance

Section 4.1 provides details on how the organization is running its programs financially which can be through own resources, through external support or through both. In case of shared resources the details of own resources and external funding are provided percentage-wise.

Section 4.2 explains whether organization receives any fees or contributions from members/ community. It also provides the amount of fee/contributions received and its frequency. Section 4.3 has information whether an organization carries out auditing of its finances or not.

Section 4.4 gives details of various office equipment and infrastructure available with organizations. In case of community based organizations this information is mostly missing as these organizations don’t have fixtures and equipment available with them.

5.     Partner Affiliation

This section provides details on organization’s affiliation and membership with forums like NGOs/ CBOs coalitions, NGO-Govt. partnership, NGO-Corporate Sector, International Forums and association with various umbrella organizations and resource organizations.

6..     Main Challenges Faced

This section gives details of main two challenges being faced by an organization in running its programme activities.

7.    Organization Typology Index

In this section each organization has identified which activity is the main focus of their establishment. While some organizations have multiple foci, they provided the priority orientation of their organization. If there was equal balance of focus the organization provided multiple entries. The choices for type of organization focus are service delivery, resource sharing, network & linkages, capacity building (HRD), lobbying and advocacy, research, information sharing, infrastructure building, and membership.

8.    Sector Index

This index helps the user in locating organizations working in particular sectors. The user first finds out the sector heading and then the name of the organization.

Entries in the Main Body are arranged alphabetically (by name of the organizations), which makes it easier for the user to locate organizations.The sector headings are arranged in an alphabetical order under which the organizations are further arranged alphabetically.

9..   Beneficiary Index

This index enables the user to locate the organization working for a particular beneficiary group. The user first identifies a particular beneficiary group and then the name of the organization. After finding the identity of the organization, it becomes simple to find the particular record in the main body. The Beneficiary Headings are in an alphabetical order under which different organisations are also arranged alphabetically.

10.   Registration Act Index

Through this index, the user can find information of organizations registered under various Registration Acts. The user first identifies a registration act and then the name of the Organization. Using this name, one can get the information from the Main Body. The registration act headings are also arranged in an alphabetical order under which organization are also placed in an alphabetical sequence.

11.   District Index

This contains listing of organizations arranged alphabetically under each District. This sequence of the data enables users to locate particular organizations in the main body.

The organizations in this Directory are assigned a specific Code Number, which is helps in guiding the user to find a particular record in the geographical area in which these organizations work/operate.

The district heading in the index is arranged alphabetically. The names of the organizations appearing under this district are also in alphabetical arrangement.
